being redundant…

Okay… here I go. I’m out on a limb here. But something these past few weeks has been prodding and poking me to start writing, and usually that something is God. I would never do this on my own. Never.
As the title says, I have been learning a lot about freedom lately. More specifically the freedom that comes within rules. AAAA! I know, I know… but don’t write me off as a crack just yet. The truth is I’ve had a lot of joy lately and I can only attribute that to the fact that i have found freedom within God’s laws. I’m not talking about the old testament laws but of God’s new convenent with believers. I’ve found a lot of the time people don’t want anything to do with christians because of the way they are so set in the rules. There just seems to be no freedom in how you live your life. If you’re a “good” christian. You know, every once in a while you get the John the Baptists of the world who people just nod their heads and smile at, thinking, ‘oh, isn’t he just a weirdo. come on kids, don’t make eye contact with the nice crazy man,’ BUT, this who God chose to be HIS messenger, the one to pave the way! Just think about it, what did John’s neighbors and friends think? They probably weren’t sitting back talking about all the amazing things John was doing for the coming of the Messiah, or how he was following God whole-heartedly. No, they were probably feeling sorry for him and wondering where it all went wrong.
What I’m getting to here is that, God doesn’t give a flip about all the rules and regulations or the way you’re “supposed do it” or the way “its always been done” What He wants is a heart that is willing to follow Him even though it may make you look absolutely nuts to the “good christians” The freedom really comes when you realize God can use you just the way you are. When you walk in obedience with Him and you’re absolutely sure you are, then nothing else matters.
I feel so depressed when I walk into a christian bookstore and see fifty books on the same subject, all claiming to have THE way to do it. They can’t all be right. People like those books because it gives them a plan, steps to tick off, and a way to track their progress, and if the results don’t come out the right way they usually think there’s something wrong with them! I do the same thing! People like having a way to do things and steps to accomplish to get there, but what if that isn’t the way God wired you? What if God has something totally different in mind for you? God may use books to drop hints, but you’re never really gonna find the way in a book. You have to have a working relationship with a living God.
In short, what I’ve found out (very slowly…) is that God has a very unique plan for each one of us. And true joy (you know, the kind from within) comes when we understand that God has a plan and we walk according to it. I really feel a connection with God when I see somebody I know walking with God. Doing what they are supposed to do. It just feels so right. And another thing, God is not going to make you do something you hate! You may not feel comfortable right that second but He’s got it, He’s big enough for all your complaints. I just honestly don’t think God is going to make you do something you absolutely hate! It’s just not Him. I can’t say that I have the way (cuz I don’t… at all) but I know the One who does, and all you have to do is listen for His call.
