Thursday morning the campers leave, taking with them the most hyperactive, distracted junior-high girls on the face of the planet. Oh, and I happened to be their facilitator. So, exhausted and ready for some intelligent conversation, I prepare for a day of rest.
Oh! Did i say rest? I meant work, sorry.
After the campers leave the facilitators are quickly put to work cleaning the recently lived-in cabins. After the broken vacuum, clogged toilets, and candy wrappers; we are finally done. Then the rotation for the next week starts, with me on hospitality a.k.a. dish crew.
Things are going good, dinner is about to start, when the announcement is made that there will be a staff game of capture-the-flag and Mission Impossible after dinner at the Matrix. The Matrix is a campground next to the river, it is seemingly a “matrix” of roads, forest, ditches, and hills. The perfect place for any intense game of anything.
So, I go. It’s a blast! Running diving through bushes isn’t always some peoples cup of tea, but this was awesome! I won’t write all the details here but I have some pretty cool stories. We end up staying longer than planned and roll back into camp around11:45p. Fifteen minutes past curfew. Oops!
Saturday dawns with me realizing that I promised to switch “on” days with another guy. Now instead of having a nice peaceful day of naps and rest, I’m in the kitchen and doing chores around camp. But mercy smiled on me and one of the “chores” that day happened to be leading a couple of ladies through rockclimbing! It was so much fun! Again it would take a page and a half to tell all the stories…
So that takes up pretty much the whole day and I collapse into bed with a smile. The next morning after church as I’m laying on the porch trying to finally get a nap, I here someone ask, “you wanna do high-ropes!?” So I accept and spend the afternoon high in the trees challenging my tired body. It was really cool, I was able to do some stuff I hadn’t before. Ask me! I’ll tell you the story!
After dinner, I’m suckered into not only rockclimbing (it didn’t take a lot) but also setting up! It was a cool night, my hands hurt from working ropes all day, but it’s amazing what you can do when you forget the pain. I was able to climb to the top of Z Crack! It’s a climb that is the probaly the most challenging set climb we have. It was awesome! It was dark by the time I got to the top but it was still sweet!
So, hands aching, fingers cut-up, and body sore, I start the next camp with a rested mind.
=)
